What is a Risk Rating?

There are 2 Risk Ratings in a Hazard Risk Assessment:

  • Initial Risk Rating: this is a number that is calculated using the Initial Likelihood & Consequence review. This number represents the total risk of the Hazard if left unattended. The higher the number, the higher the risk that the Hazard could cause injury.
  • Residual Risk Rating: this is a number that is calculated using the Residual Likelihood & Consequence review. This number represents the total risk of the Hazard after controls or fixes are put in place. This number should be less than the Inital Risk rating.
